What GameNight sent this summer

GameNight keeps one log of every message it sends and receives: texts, emails and WhatsApp. I pulled the numbers for the three months the log covers, 27 June to 24 September 2026, to see which channels people actually use and whether anything is breaking.

1,457 messages sent, 99.2% accepted by the provider, 168 replies received, 36 events with notifications sent

The channels

Texts go out through Surge, email through Brevo's SMTP relay, and WhatsApp through a self-hosted WAHA gateway. Text is the busiest channel and the only one that has never logged a failure. It is also where most replies come from: 136 inbound texts, against 32 on WhatsApp.

Table: Text via Surge 729 sent, 0 failed, 136 replies. Email via Brevo 665 sent, 3 failed. WhatsApp via WAHA 63 sent, 8 failed, 32 replies. Total 1,457 sent, 11 failed, 168 replies.

All 11 failures are old. Seven of the eight WhatsApp failures happened on 2 July, the day I was setting it up, and the eighth was on 28 July when the gateway moved to a new engine and the session hadn't reconnected yet. The three email failures were messages with an empty body, the last on 2 August. Nothing has failed since then.

For email, a "sent" means Brevo accepted the message. It doesn't prove the message reached an inbox, and bounces don't come back into this log.

Month by month

Stacked bars of messages sent per month. June (partial): 21 text, 32 email. July: 174 text, 96 email, 54 WhatsApp. August: 258 text, 310 email, 12 WhatsApp. September (to the 24th): 276 text, 230 email, 5 WhatsApp.

August was the biggest month at 580 messages, and email carried most of it. In September text passed email, and September still had a week to go when I ran this. WhatsApp got a burst of use in July and then faded; in the last 30 days it sent five messages, all to one person.

Week by week

Line chart of messages sent per week by channel. Email spikes to 129 in the weeks of 17 August and 14 September. Text climbs from the teens in June to 106 in the week of 14 September. WhatsApp peaks at 47 in the week of 29 June and stays near zero after.

Email comes in bursts. It hit 129 in the week of 17 August and again in the week of 14 September. Text grows more steadily, and the week of 14 September was the busiest of the period, with 238 messages across all three channels.

When they go out

Bar chart of messages by hour of day, Central time. Traffic rises from 7am, peaks at 171 at 11am, dips in early afternoon, and peaks again at 149 at 5pm.

There are two peaks, 11am and 5pm, and very little goes out between midnight and 6am.

Bar chart of messages by day of week: Monday 211, Tuesday 134, Wednesday 278, Thursday 233, Friday 281, Saturday 157, Sunday 174.

Friday and Wednesday are the busiest days. Tuesday is the quietest.

What I take from it

Text carries the most traffic and has the cleanest record. Email handles the big sends. WhatsApp is down to one regular user. Over the whole period, 45 events were on the calendar, 311 invitations went out and 234 of them came back as a yes.
